Named for Nathaniel Green, General of the United State Army during the Revolutionary War, Green County was formed in 1853. The Greene County seat of government is Paragould, AR. Situated in the northeastern corner of Arkansas, Greene County is known for its rich farm land and prominence in agriculture and agribusiness.

Offering many rich natural resources, Greene County early on offered timber, rice, soybeans and small grains for export. Lake Frierson, Lake Hubble and the Bland and Little Rivers all offer outstanding fishing. The St. Francis River forms the county's eastern border along the state of Missouri with the western border occupied by the Cache River. These waterways offer excellent fishing and hunting venues as well. The “Sunken Lands of Arkansas” stretch across parts of the Greene, Craighead and Poinsett Counties. The area is renowned for quality hunting and fishing.
